"First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to talk with me and explaining the product to me. As you are aware, my department ordered the I.T.S. Xtreme package early August. We received the unit quickly and with everything agreed upon.
My department teaches at least 10 to 15 classes a year on the NIST Facility. Previously, we would have to go to a storage area, dig out used extinguishers, get the diesel fuel can filled up, grab the burn pan and a couple road flares, and then head to the area where we would be holding the extinguisher training. We would show a video and walk outside hoping the wind wasn’t blowing too badly to put black smoke and dry powder back on to the students (NIST employees). The old way was time consuming and dirty for the employees. Not to mention a little unsafe in relighting the fire in a hot burn pan.
The I.T.S. Xtreme System is a safe, clean, easy to operate, easy to set up, self contained training system. We put the unit and its accessories onto a training trailer, hook the trailer to our brush unit (truck) and drive it to the training site.
The firefighters really like the system as well. The clean use of the extinguishers saves the firefighter uniforms from the dry powder. As far as management goes, it is definitely safer than using road flares to start the fuel fire, plus we have control over extinguishing the fire by remote now. This system gives the Fire Protection Group a lot more safety controls than the burn pan method gives and for a group that promotes safety; this unit helps show the NIST employees a safer training method and assists us in keeping within the guidelines of good safe training.
We trained 40 NIST employees on September 4 and trained another 14 on September 10. We had employees tell us how much they liked training on the system since it was cleaner and the use of the different props made it more realistic.
I know we will be holding a lot more classes in the near future. We have over 3,000 extinguishers throughout the buildings here at NIST. We promote the use of fire extinguishers and in keeping with the OSHA guidelines and NIST regulations, employees are required to take training in order to use fire extinguishers. It’s the Fire Protection Group's job to provide the training. With the I.T.S. Xtreme System we are definitely up for the task. Thanks for designing such a great system."
